A mother is born too

Postpartum care for you and the people around you, from the first 40 days and well beyond.

Where the science of motherhood meets the wisdom your body has always carried.

Who I work with

For mums, and everyone who loves them

Most of us plan the birth down to the playlist. Then the baby arrives, the midwife goes home, and the next few weeks get made up as we go, usually on about two hours' sleep.

I help you get ready for those weeks, and I'm there with you while they happen. Bring your partner, your mam, your best mate. They're part of this too.

I also work with midwives, nurses and employers who want the families they look after to get better care after birth.

How we can work together

one: 1:1 Support and Home Visits Me, in your corner, once the baby's here. We look after your body, keep you warm and fed, and talk through the birth and whatever else is coming up. Fortnightly sessions before and after birth, or me at your door for the first 2-4 weeks. Button: Find out more

two: Planning for the Fourth Trimester A small online group (or in person where possible) training for you, your partner, grandparents, friends, siblings… your team. By the end you'll have a written plan for the first six weeks that everyone can actually stick to. Cohorts every quarter.

three: Talks and Training For maternity teams and workplaces. Matrescence, postpartum recovery and how to welcome parents back to work, from someone who's sat on both sides of the desk.

Meet Gemma

Hiya, I'm Gemma

I'm a mother, a connector, a listener and a space holder. I grew up in the North East, I've worked with people since I was 15, and I've had more lives than a cat: Probation Officer, City Incident Manager, Retreat Leader…

I raised my son on my own. He'd been to 11 countries by the time he was two, and I did most of those early years with a bag on my back and not much of a stable village. That taught me what a difference the right support makes, and how few women get it.

So now I make sure they do. I'm an Innate Postpartum Practitioner, certified in Compassionate Inquiry®, and I studied matrescence with Dr Oscar Serrallach. I bring the science, the old ways of caring for new mothers, and a good dose of Northern common sense into your home.

I work in the body as much as the head. We follow what's coming up for you, whether that's tiredness, tears, a birth story that needs telling, or simply the need to sit down and be fed.

Partnerships

I am proud to work alongside Elite Midwifery Services, who care for families from the first scan to the first year at home.
